Following one of our most successful SF Pride Beer Booth events ever, raising almost $6000, we are excited to announce that SF Tsunami Swim and Synchro is one of only 14 local nonprofits awarded a beverage booth at the 30th Folsom Street Fair on Sunday, September 29th 2013. We’ll be running the beer booth on the northwest corner of Ninth Street and Folsom, a great location with a lot of thirsty patrons, and the potential to make a lot of money for our team!
Sounds Great! How Do I Sign Up?
Easy! We have an (almost) real time sign-up list for the booth: Tsunami Folsom St. Fair Sign-Up List. The Google spreadsheet is read-only so you need to e-mail me (email@example.com) to sign up.
Which Shifts are Available?
11 am – 1:30 pm Wind Up
1:15 pm – 3:45 pm Prime Time
3:30 pm – 6:15 pm Close Out
We need you to volunteer to pour, fetch, and sell beer. You get to work side-by-side with your swim and synchro teammates in this fun team-building event. We can’t do this without you! Speedos and swimwear are highly encouraged, but not required. And go ahead, even throw some goggles on your head! Folsom fair-goers love some gear!
In order to work in any capacity in the booth, you must have had Alcoholic Beverages Control (ABC) Training in the past two years and have your ABC card with you, or attend one of TWO trainings this year. This is a change from previous years, when those who didn’t handle beer were allowed not to have current training. This year, however, everyone must be trained. If you are unsure about your current training status, email Jeremy asap and he will find out your status.

Thanks to the efforts of Boards present and past to bring more clarity and stability to our team’s management and finances, we now know that our members’ fees and dues essentially cover our costs to run the team.
So you might ask, “Why Fundraise?”
Historically, money generated from our fundraising efforts has been used to provide financial assistance for swimmers and to help pay for special events, like the annual holiday party or the 25th Anniversary Party. We have also given money directly to support local nonprofits such as Shanti, Project Open Hand, and the SF Gay and Lesbian Center. Earlier this year, we awarded scholarships to help several of our swim and synchro teammates attend IGLA in Seattle.
Because of the positive feedback about the IGLA scholarships, and in recognition of our role in the community to promote LGBT athletic participation in aquatics, the Board is pleased to announce the creation of a SF Tsunami Competition Fund, to increase team participation at swim and synchro events both locally and out of town, and to provide scholarships for teammates who need financial support to participate.
All of the proceeds raised from your hard work at this year’s 30th Folsom Street Fair beer booth will be placed into the SF Tsunami Competition Fund.
See you at Folsom!
